Beginners Yoga is suitable for yoga beginners as well as those with a yoga practice. You will be guided through all areas of movement in the body, synchronising them to the breath so you can flow freely throughout your yoga flow.  An energising yet grounding class to unify the body, mind and breath.  These classes end with a yoga nidra relaxation where you can truly receive the benefits of your yoga practice.

At The Yoga Room we host a variety of holistic health workshops through the year.  These events are listed below. Our Events can also be viewed on our Facebook page here.

  • An Introduction to Wall Yin Yoga

    Date:  Thursday 28th March 2019

    Time:  18:00 - 19:30
    Price:  £15

What is Yin Yoga? You’ll most probably have heard of Yin and Yang - interconnected mutually co-dependent opposites whose interplay is manifest in all things. For example, there’s no day without its opposite night, male-female, activity-rest etc.

In most of our yoga classes we generally focus more on the Yang aspects of yoga - the muscles of the body. We focus on asanas (poses) and safety in alignment. We work in an active way to stress these muscles warming them up with repetitive action.

By contrast, in a Yin style class we work on the Yin aspects of the body - such as the ligaments. These are less elastic, less nourished than our muscles and they may be damaged by a Yang style. We may help keep them healthy, and consequently improve our joint health, by working on them in a Yin way.

So, what is the Yin way? It is slow yoga. Asanas are held – perhaps for up to 5 minutes (but not this long initially). Why use the wall? Because it’s a great support for beginners to Yin.

As this extended yoga class falls near the Spring equinox (20th March) and because Ruth is a traditional Chinese Medicine (tCM) acupuncturist her workshop will be infused with her tCM knowledge.

Spring is a time of surging energy and new growth. The Yin of Winter transforms into Yang (not yet the full Yang of Summer), and we mirror nature in experiencing this energetic seasonal shift. Spring is associated with the Wood Element and the organ pair, Liver (LIV) and Gall Bladder (GB). Though this is a full body introduction to Yin yoga, there will be a focus on the outer hip, sides of body and inner legs - the pathways of the LIV and GB meridians.

  • Spring Yoga Detox - a Yin-Yang Flow

    Date:  Tuesday 26th March 2019

    Time: 18:00 - 20:00

    Price: £25

Ruth is a traditional Chinese Medicine (tCM) acupuncturist and her workshop will be infused with her tCM knowledge.

Spring is a time of surging energy and new growth. The Yin of Winter transforms into Yang (not yet the full Yang of Summer), and we mirror nature in experiencing this energetic seasonal shift, which can be more challenging for some. As 20th March is the Spring Equinox this is a perfect time for an energetic tune-up.

Spring is associated with the Wood Element and the organ pair, Liver (LIV) and Gall Bladder (GB). The workshop will focus on supporting the Wood energy with pranayama (breath-work), asanas (poses) and relaxation selected to support your transition both physically and mentally from Winter to Spring.  We will end with an invitation to sample some Liver nourishing herbal teas & nourishing nibble.
