Moxa Training
Moxa is a different way of stimulating acu-points to needling.  It doesn't use needles but distal heat.

Two people may attend the tutorial as you may wish to treat each other.  For example, if you have a painful back, your moxa friend could apply the moxa for you.  After training with me you will be able to safely self-treat from your home.  Some of the benefits of moxa include:

  • immune system support

  • ease arthritic pain (such as OA of the knees), back pain

  • calm anxiety

Moxibustion uses the ancient healing principles of acupuncture.  Acupuncture may benefit a range of health issues arising from imbalance.  The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) my professional governing body, has compiled a range of research factsheets which you may download and also an informative 'Ask an Expert' section where you may post your questions about whether acupuncture may help you or search their archive.  You are also welcome to contact me.

Traditionally, moxa has been used in Asia to improve health and it may support a range of conditions.  Moxa is a heat therapy and is used therapeutically to heat specific acu-points or more generally to ease pain.  Moxa is made from the mugwort plant.  It comes in various forms, such as loose moxa, cones or sticks.  For the safe application of self-moxa I will tutor you with a moxa stick -
a cigar shaped roll.

A moxa consultation is based an a complete acupuncture consultation.  I will make a diagnosis and prescibe you your bespoke moxa treatment plan.  I will demonstrate acu-point location and moxa instructions.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT MOXA CAN BURN.  IT IS ADVISED TO SELF-MOXA AFTER YOU HAVE RECEIVED TRAINING FROM A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL.

THERE ARE ALSO INSTANCES WHEN MOXA SHOULD NOT BE USED, FOR EXAMPLE: FEVER, HYPERTENSION, LEUKAEMIA, PACEMAKER.

CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE UNSURE IF MOXA IS SUITABLE FOR YOU.

Virtual moxa tutorials may also be arranged.  On booking a virtual self-moxa appointment you will receive:

  • a moxa roll  via post or collection.  Once you have received your moxa we can proceed

  • an online consultation to assess and prescribe the most appropriate moxa treatment for you

  • an online tutorial of acu-point location and moxa techniques

  • a summary sheet detailing your acu-point protocol, point locations and moxa use instructions

  • a BAcC, 'Self-moxa patient information sheet'

  • a follow up consultation 7 - 10 days after tutorial
