About Ruth Irving
BA (hons) Philosophy PGCE. Dip. Ac. MBAcC. YTT
Ruth has been a professional member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC) since 2007 - practicing traditional Chinese Medicine (tCM) acupuncture for over 15 years. She began her training at the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM) East Grinstead and completed it at the Northern College of Acupuncture, York.

The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) is the leading self-regulatory body for the practice of traditional acupuncture in the UK. Only acupuncturists who have trained on BAAB accredited courses are eligible to join. This ensures high professional standards.

Her initial degree in philosophy ignited a passion for thinking outside the box and she has always been interested in exploring alternatives and options. Teaching, her first career, was cut short by chronic eczema. Like many of her patients, Ruth turned to acupuncture as a last resort and has never looked back. Her eczema cleared and she embarked on her 3 year intensive training as an acupuncturist.
Lifestyle changes are key to a tCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) approach to maintaining best health. Ruth encourages her patients to balance their often busy lives with mindful movement (yoga), breathwork and mindfulness.
Ruth’s tCM acupuncture treatments may incorporate deep tissue massage, acupressure and other tCM techniques such as cupping, gua sha, moxibustion (moxa) and electro-acupuncture to ensure the best effects for her patients. Ruth is the founder and manager of Carlisle Therapies which she opened in 2012.
Ruth has completed over 400 hours yoga teaching training (YTT). Most recently training in Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark.
She runs indoor weekly classes and workshops from Carlisle city and at other locations within Cumbria. She also hosts outdoor Kirkbride Yoga on the Turf -weather permitting.
When not managing the centre, working full time as a professional acupuncturist and teaching yoga Ruth can be found in the Cumbrian fells hiking or mountain biking.
